Art, Writing and Poetry

The Nine Muses were Greek goddesses who presided over the arts and sciences and inspired those who excelled at these pursuits. They encouraged through remembered and improvised song and traditional music and dances. Calliope, the eldest Muse, the muse of epic poetry is often represented holding a writing tablet in hand. Each Muse represents a different art, for example Calliope(epic poetry/song ) Euterpe (lyric poetry/song) Melpomene (tragedy) Erato (love poetry/song) Polyhymnia (sacred poetry/song).
Thus it comes as no surprise that Greeks have an aptitiude for the arts. And Ithacans are no exception – we have many talented artists, poets and writers in our midst. These pages are for you. We welcome your contributions. You can contact us at arts@ithaca.org.au.
